The wages of workers on leave due to coronavirus will continue to be funded through the UK furlough scheme until October, Chancellor Rishi Sunak has said.
The Chancellor confirmed that employees will continue to receive 80% of their monthly wages up to £2,500. Around 7.5 million people are now covered by the scheme, at a cost of £14bn per month.
New flexibility for the scheme will see support introduced to get furloughed employees back part-time from August, with employers being asked to pay a percentage towards salaries.
More information on the updates to the scheme will be available from the end of May.
