One of the often unexpected consequences of successfully growing your business from single founder to employer is the requirement to motivate, lead and organise people. I once heard this saying “managing people is more complicated than rocket science” and there’s some truth in that.
“What’s wrong with these people?” Frustrated at the drivers’ seeming inability to stop rescanning all the parcels prior to loading the vans, the IT director of a logistics company had his head in his hands in despair. In the cold light of day it seemed incomprehensible to him that they would continue to follow the same routine day in day out even though they had been asked to change. His conclusion was similar to that reached by many people in similar position – to question their intellectual capability.

After 2014 has drawn to a close, it’s that time to sit down again and take stock of the year we’ve had and look forward to what we should expect to see in the storage market next year. I’ve been in the data storage business since 1984, and have never seen so many dramatic changes in such a short amount of time as we have in 2014.

There are many things the UK should rightly be proud of. For me though, one of the country’s biggest success stories lies in the economic environment that exists here at the minute. Small businesses now dominate the landscape, making up 99.9% of all businesses and employing 24 million people between them. They have become the lifeblood of the UK economy.
