SMEs are confused by the huge number of VoIP solutions currently available to them, according to a new report.That is the conclusion reached by Access Markets International (AMI) after it recently carried out global survey of SMEs and their attitudes towards VoIP.The report found that SMEs still think that VoIP technology is a "risky, confusing, and costly proposition".Equally, the data found that the majority of SMEs only understood the consumer-orientated side of VoIP services. There was a significant lack of knowledge about specialist business VoIP services.Despite these reservations, AMI still concluded that VoIP technology would become integral to SME’s operations in the coming years."Most companies will move to VoIP over the next five years – creating a huge opportunity for equipment vendors, service providers, and VARs," said Sanjeev Aggarwal, a spokesman for AMI.According to its figures, many SMEs have already switched. AMI estimate that the global market for VoIP services for SMEs was worth $3.26 billion (£1.8 billion) last year, up 26 per cent on 2005.Recent figures suggest that SMEs are set to increase their overall spend on IT by 10 per cent in the coming year.© Adfero Ltd
