Sainsbury’s has been forced to scrap offers which allowed customers to buy bottles of prosecco for as little as £2.63, because they were buying so much.
Customers were able to use three separate offers on the supermarket’s Taste the Difference prosecco to bag the bargain price.
The fizz was already on offer at £7.50 a bottle, but Sainsbury’s also offered 25% off when customers bought six or mote bottles. And it also offered £18 off when new online shoppers spent £60 or more.
But this week, Sainsbury’s said it was having to stop the triple discount because stocks had fallen so low. Those who purchased bottles online were told they would be charged the full £10 per bottle, but would be given a voucher to make up for the difference.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “Our prosecco offer has been extremely popular and, as with all offers, was subject to availability. We understand that some customers may be disappointed so, as a gesture of goodwill, we have offered them e-vouchers.”
