YouTube is set to launch its gaming spin-off site at 18:00 BST today (Wednesday).

YouTube Gaming focuses entirely, as the name suggests, on gaming content. It is expected to be used mainly for live streams.

Market experts have suggested that YouTube is fighting back against rivals like Twitch and Daily Motion.

Streaming videos has become a big draw for gamers in recent years with the advancements in technology seen in the next generation of games consoles. YouTube's most subscribed channel is PewDiePie, run by Felix Kjellberg who spends a lot of his time posting gaming related videos.

But YouTube says it has redeveloped its live streaming service, meaning live streams will be subject to the same copyright checks as normal videos. It means videos will be "terminated" if copyrighted music is detected.

"We're not treating gaming any differently on YouTube. The app is a lens for gaming content, the key thing is discoverability," YouTube's head of gaming Ryan Wyatt told the BBC.

"This is a way to focus on gaming videos, aggregate them, but YouTube doesn't change. You can still watch gaming videos on YouTube."

"At the moment there is a fragmented experience. People go to different places for live content, and YouTube for video on demand.

"We have amazing gamers that don't live stream yet. Now they have that opportunity."
