German car manufacturer Volkswagen has set a six-month sales record, having sold over four million vehicles during the first half of 2011.
The increase in sales, marked by a 14% rise in deliveries, has been driven by strong growth in Asian markets.
The German firm, which includes Skoda, Seat and Audi, saw sales grow by 19% in Asia, with the bulk of the 1.26 million sales coming in China.
Continued growth in central and eastern Europe ensured European sales rose by 9.3%, with North America seeing a 21% increase and South America 11%.
"Success in the second six months won't be automatic. Plenty of hard work lies ahead to keep our deliveries during the second half of the year at a high level," Volkswagen's sales boss Christian Klinger said.
