Baroness Warsi met with His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah before laying the foundation stone of the Al Radwa medical centre in Kuwait during a recent two day trip to the country.

The Minister was in Kuwait at the invitation of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister of State for Development Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
The visit was part of the coalition’s Gulf Initiative which aims to expand and develop the UK’s relationship with the Gulf States.

The Baroness talked of the existing ties between Britain and Kuwait, saying;

“The unique closeness of the United Kingdom’s bilateral relationship with Kuwait stretches back over centuries.

“This year Kuwait will celebrate the twin anniversary of its independence and liberation. These celebrations are a timely reminder of the UK’s historical commitment to Kuwait’s freedom and prosperity.”

The Minister was also invited to cut the ceremonial ribbon of the first area development office at Kaifan and was given a cultural tour of the Grand Mosque, the largest official mosque in Kuwait, before meeting with the National Assembly Speaker His Excellency Jassim Al-Kharafi.

Baroness Warsi added;

“This government is committed to elevating its engagement with Kuwait and other Gulf partners. We want to expand our existing co-operation with Kuwait across the board and, through our Gulf Initiative, are committed to strengthening bilateral ties further.”
