A Turkish Airlines video has been named 'ad of the decade' with its "Kobe vs. Messi: The Selfie Shootout" video by YouTube.
As part of its 10 year anniversary celebrations, YouTube posted 20 finalists for its #10YearsofYouTubeAds campaign, asking viewers to vote for their favourite.
The ad has received more than 140 million views on YouTube. It was a follow up to the 2012, “Legends on Board campaign”, and features two of the world’s biggest sports superstars, Kobe Bryant and Lionel Messi, in a face-off game for selfie supremacy.
The combination of the selfies, well-known superstars, and just a few Turkish Airlines destinations, resulted in the ad going viral with over 25 million views within the first three days.
“This YouTube ad was about increasing awareness that Turkish Airlines travel to more countries than any other carrier,” said Zeki Cukur, Senior Vice President, of Corporate Communications at Turkish Airlines.
“Kobe and Messi did a fantastic job of allowing us to highlight the fact that no other airline offers this type of access to destinations around the world.”
