The world’s leading car manufacturer has announced further ‘adjustments’ to production in its North American facilities due to a parts shortage suffered since the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami.
Between April and June the plants will run at 50% while the company will decide how to run following June. No layoffs Toyota have been announced, and the company will use staff downtime for retraining and plant improvement.
Canadian production will also be suspended during May.
“We are trying to continue production as much as possible and keep our workforce intact in order to facilitate a smooth transition back to full production when all parts are available,” said Steve St. Angelo, executive vice president of TEMA.
Today’s announcement follows a statement last week in which Toyota planned to restrict and halt production at sites across Europe.
