Nationwide Windows has more than doubled production capacity at its Rugby-based headquarters after securing an additional funding line from HSBC’s Midlands Commercial team.

The company, which supplies windows and doors to social housing and new build housing developers, has installed an automated window production line following a £1 million increase in its HSBC equipment finance facility.

The new production line has increased Nationwide’s capacity from approximately 1,500 PVC-U window units per week to 3,500, as well as delivering cost efficiencies and accuracy improvements.

The company has seen a sharp increase in sales following the introduction of the new facility, with monthly turnover increasing from £1.2 million to £2 million. Nationwide was formed in 1986 and employs approximately 100 people across its headquarters in Rugby and regional operating centres in Nottingham, Bangor and Cwmbran.

“Many local authorities are now joining forces and purchasing windows in bulk so the new production line has meant that we have been able to compete and win that business," Nationwide Managing Director John Whalley said.

"Although the housing market has generally been slow, we have still been able to grow our business which is testimony to the high quality product we produce.

“We have not only seen improvements in capacity, but in the quality and consistency of the finished product as well. With such high demands on the accuracy of product fabrication in today's market, having access to machinery that can produce a window frame within 0.5mm tolerance is an important contributor to productivity, accuracy and waste reduction.”

The HSBC relationship is managed by Tom Brothwell, Senior International Commercial Manager with HSBC’s Coventry and Warwickshire Commercial Centre, and the finance was arranged by Colin Fawcett, Commercial Manager within the same centre.

“Nationwide is an established, successful business that has been able to grow its business in a challenging market sector," Roy Harris, HSBC Regional Commercial Director for the Midlands, said.

"This new investment positions the company to take advantage of current economic conditions and win new business. We look forward to working with the company as it continues to grow.”
