John Lewis reported record sales last week as Black Friday bargain-hunters snapped up tablet computers and televisions in the crucial run-up to Christmas.
The British department store chain said that sales reached £179.1 million in the week ending Saturday November 29, a rise of almost 22% on the same time last year and 56.8% on the previous week's trading.
"Black Friday helped deliver the biggest ever week for sales in John Lewis's 150-year trading history," the company said in a statement.
The retail chain sold, on average, a television every minute as online sales also rose by 42.2% from the same time last year.
