UK public sector workers are staging a mass strike today, Thursday, including a march through the streets of central London, in protest in reaction to planned pension changes.
Such is the scale of the strike that it is estimated half of all schools in England and Wales are being affected. The protest in London is set to culminate in Westminster later today.
Up and down the country there are picket lines have been set up to protest against changes the Government claim are 'fair to taxpayers'.
The main gripe, according to the unions, is that the changes would equate to more work and contributions for a reduced pension.
It is estimated that 12,000 schools have been affected, although that number is expected to rise.
