New figures from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) reveal that property sales for July were the highest of the year to date, with 79,000 homes sold during last month.
These figures still represent a decrease on the same time last year, down by some 10,000 transactions, but maintain the figures for June 2011.
July 2007 saw record figures for sales, with 151,000 homes sold, but since then sales have suffered due to sellers refusing to drop asking prices, and the increasing difficulty of gaining a mortgage.
And with Persimmon declaring the housing market as stable, and the British Bankers' Association approving more mortgages in July compared with June, there is optimism that the housing market will continue to improve.
