The day after it was announced 3,000 jobs would be lost at BAE Systems there was good news for UK manufacturing as it was announced an expansion at the Port of Felixstowe would create 1,500 jobs.
The expansion is part of a £1 billion investment drive and will see a new terminal built at the country's largest container port, meaning it will be able to handle the world's largest container ships.
Once complete the terminal will house seven of the world's largest container cranes and will have the potential to boost the value of imports and exports that currently pass through the port by up to £20 billion.
The expansion will create 680 permanent jobs, with a further 820 related to companies involved in and around the port.
