McDonald's boss Don Thompson is stepping down in March as the fast food giant continues to struggle in the US.
Mr Thompson has been in the job for two-and-a-half years, but will be replaced by British-born Steve Easterbrook, the company's current brand chief officer.
"It's tough to say goodbye to the McFamily," said the outgoing boss.
McDonald's recently reported a 25% fall in quarterly profits compared with the same period in the previous year.
Sales in the US were down 4.1% as customers moved towards so-called "fast casual" restaurants like Chipotle and Shake Shack.
Steve Easterbrook will become the first ever non-US boss of McDonald's. He previously ran Pizza Express and Wagamama.
