The return of a popular programme of master classes to help London-based companies overcome barriers to export and succeed in the global marketplace has been announced by UK Trade & Investment’s (UKTI) London International Trade Team.

Focusing on key aspects of international trade and different routes to market, these intensive one-day workshops, led by experienced trainers, will have something to suit the novice and experienced exporter alike. The interactive sessions feature practical advice and real-life case study examples to ensure companies are fully prepared for overseas trade.

The new series begins with ‘Protecting your Intellectual Property’ on 18 June in central London, with the following additional topics being covered throughout the year:

- International franchising, 3 July 2012
- Optimising your website for international trade, 12 July 2012 and February 2013
- Agents and distributors, 17 July 2012 and January 2013
- Social Media, 19 September 2012
- Digital Tools for International Expansion, 18 October 2012
- International Bid Management (High Value Opportunities, 4 December 2012)

The seminars, held in Central London, start from £70 with a 20 per cent discount for companies on the Passport to Export and Gateway to Global Growth programmes.

“These seminars provide London companies with a chance to develop specific elements of their international strategies," Nicola Bridgett, Senior International Trade Adviser, said.

“Exporting is vital for individual firms to sustain their business and grow and we’d encourage any firm to come along and find out more about routes to market and other key aspects of international trade."

Speaking about the first seminar in the series of master classes that UKTI London offers Nicola, who is also the Intellectual Property Specialist for London, added:

“In a competitive, global marketplace, it is more important than ever that businesses recognise their intellectual value, learn how to exploit it and most of all defend it.

“Time and time again I have seen companies fall into the trap of trying to defend their IP when it’s too late because there is a belief that it’s too costly to protect it in the first place. This master class will show you how to identify and manage your intellectual property.

“It will also explain how companies with IP can exploit it and create revenue from their innovation through franchising, licensing, joint ventures and trade secrets.”
