Danish toy maker Lego has reported a rise in its half year profits after a boost in sales from its Lego Movie.

The world's largest toy maker reported a profit of 2.7bn Danish Kroner (£290m) in the first half of 2014, up 12% from the same period last year.

Lego said it "exceeded expectations" as revenues increased by 11%, boosted by sales relating to the release of the Lego Movie.

"We are thrilled by the reception of the Lego Movie products that provided a significant boost to our sales during the first half of 2014," said Lego chief financial officer John Goodwin.

"It remains to be seen how the line will continue to develop behind the highly anticipated launch of the Lego Movie on DVD in the second half of 2014."
