With more businesses adopting mobile-centric innovations throughout 2016, companies are becoming more serious about ways in which mobility can be used to increase employee engagement and productivity.

Using mobile devices for internal communications is set to accelerate as more businesses are beginning to realise how quickly its being applied. A report released by Gartner predicts that by 2022, 70% of all software interactions within enterprises will take place on mobile devices. Enterprise mobility will no longer be a ‘nice to have’ product but an essential part for digital transformation to improve productivity.

Another report released by Digital Strategy Consulting tells us that 60% of UK employees use apps for work related activities and companies are gaining an extra 240 hours of work per year due to this. Apps provide huge amounts of benefits, creating more opportunities to increase sales, productivity, efficiency and saving costs.

The idea of employees being productive while on the move and not tied to their desktop or relying on paper-based methods seems to be the trend in 2017. The best way to ensure this is to integrate intuitive and simple to use apps which mobilize key functions of the business.

More and more mobile time is being spent on mobile apps and businesses are using this to their advantage. Giving employees the flexibility to access their work through their devices as well as improving communication methods outside of regular working hours would provide a great convenience. They can access content on their terms and their needs whenever they want.

There are generally two ways to improve employee productivity. One is by purchasing new technology and the second involves a new process allowing the employees to increase the quality and speed of their tasks. Both work hand – in-hand and fortunately there are increasingly more tools available to help businesses enhance productivity.

Apps can be optimised for specific business challenges as there are opportunities to personalise the experience for the employee. Many apps can now be used offline providing a reliable and accessible product. When an app provides value for its customers they become almost embedded into our daily routines, the same can be said with employee apps.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to enterprise apps, it can offer support on daily tasks, sales and training advice, industry news, events, connect employees from different departments, shared access to resources which will eliminate the need for duplicating/communicating business related information….the list goes on. When employee apps create value, empower employees, and help connect with the wider workforce, they become an invaluable tool for both the employer and user.

As mobile development becomes a popular trend within enterprises, more pressure is being placed on businesses and their developers to build solutions that their employees will use. Getting employees to use new technologies can be tricky to implement. However, the necessity for innovative mobile experience will continue to grow as mobile platforms evolve at a similar pace to keep up with the demand of employees.

Companies aspiring to stay at the forefront of the enterprise mobility will need to continue evolving with employee expectations by integrating the latest technology to deliver the best mobile experience for their employees. The key is to ensure enterprise apps are easily accessible, simple to use and to build a sense of excitement around new technology. This also means apps would need to be slick, informative and have an engaging user experience.
