As temperatures across the South East of the UK exceed 30 centigrade for the second day, the National Express train operating company have implemented speed restrictions across its network.

Restrictions have been imposed due to the company’s ongoing renewal scheme tackling the network’s dated overhead power supply cables, National Express hopes to resume full service by evening peak travel time today.

Close to 40 services have been affected by the year's hottest weather, the majority of which are travelling to or from London’s Liverpool Street station, causing widespread disruption.

Warnings about the mini-heatwave gripping parts of the country were also issued by the Met office on Friday, who predicted temperatures would soar past ‘threshold levels’.
