Are we on the road to recovery? At least one experienced politician thinks so.
Former Prime Minister John Major told the BBC yesterday (Sunday) that he thought that the worst of the recession is over.
Speaking to Andrew Mar he said; "Recovery begins from the darkest moment. I'm not certain, but I think we have passed the darkest moment."
Reminding us that 20 years ago his then Chancellor Norman Lamont had predicted, ‘green shoots of recovery’ during the economic lows after ‘Black Wednesday’ and was ridiculed by commentators he said; “this is something a minister can't say but I can - that in due course we will find that we passed the bottom."
"Norman Lamont was taken to pieces by commentators for suggesting there were green shoots, but in retrospect, we can see that Norman was right. Recovery begins from the darkest moment."
