The Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) campaign launched today (Monday) to promote entrepreneurship and encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs in the UK.
With 2.49 million people in the UK unemployed GEW aims to help create the businesses that will provide the next generation of jobs. Recent statistics show that entrepreneurs are setting up around 2,000 new businesses a month and GEW plans to help these succeed.
Askar Sheibani, CEO of IT and telecoms repair company Comtek, chairman of Deeside Industrial Park, and Entrepreneurship Champion for Wales, offers the following comment on this, as well as his five top tips for entrepreneurs:
“Global Entrepreneurship Week is a great opportunity for budding entrepreneurs to seek guidance and support in setting up a business. The worrying number of people unemployed in the UK shows how much we need an injection of vibrant new businesses, employing and inspiring the youth. To ensure these businesses maximise the right opportunities and succeed, however, those in the business community must offer their experience and advice.
“With the Dragons’ Den style events and Enterprise Clubs that I’m involved in with Flintshire County Council, we’ve proven that a bit of support goes a long way and many of our local entrepreneurs have turned their business dreams into reality. The UK economy has a lot to gain from entrepreneurs, as their businesses are driving Britain out of recession and are crucial to its economic recovery."
My top 5 tips for entrepreneurs would be:
1. Aim at something creative which you are passionate about
2. Be optimistic and believe in yourself and your dream
3. Ignore and block de-motivating people as we are surrounded by them
4. Forge ahead and strive for your goals
5. Remember that no barriers are insurmountable
