Luxury London retailer Fortnum & Mason has reported that pre-tax profits more than doubled in the latest financial year.

The company described the 12 months to July as the busiest year in its 307-year history, as pre-tax profits rose to £3.8 million.

Last November it opened its first new store in more than 300 years in St Pancras International Station in London, which was swiftly followed by the first non-UK store in Dubai.

Chief executive Ewan Venters said the company was confident heading into the festive season.

"We're very excited about Christmas, naturally, and all the signs suggest we are going to have our best festive season on record too," he said.
