Oil prices need to go "as low as possible" to former marginal producers out of the market, a former adviser to the Minister of Petroleum in Saudi Arabia has said.

Mohammed Al-Sabban told the BBC that Saudi Arabia can cope with the current oil prices "for at least eight years".

Oil prices have dropped by more than half since the summer of 2014, with over supply attributed as the key reason.
