The 'Engage for Success' launch, backed by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), took place today (Monday) and is part of a wider initiative committed to the belief that employee engagement is the key to a successful business.

Lara Morgan, CEO and Founder of, has backed the campaign, given her belief that every person has a right to be ignited at work, inspired by leadership and rewarded for their brilliance.

A long standing advocate of enterprise and positive employee engagement, Lara is fully behind Engage for Success.

"Engage for Success is a movement committed to the idea that there is a better way to work; a better way to enable personal growth, organisational growth and ultimately growth for Britain by releasing more of the capability and potential of people at work," she said.

"We want to grow awareness about the power and potential of employee engagement. We want to provoke people to think and to learn more about it. And above all we want individuals and organisations to take action, secure in the proof that it works and passionate about its importance."

David MacLeod and Nita Clarke, Co-Chairs of the Task Force, have said that improving productivity and performance in the UK workforce must be a national priority, especially given the economic challenges we, as a nation, face.

“As the UK faces up to the challenges of recession and global competition, improving productivity and performance among the UK workforce has to be a national priority and central to our country’s growth agenda," they said in a joint statement.

“Leaders at today’s launch understand the importance of employee engagement to the success of their organisations, now and in the future. Engagement is also vital for individual employees’ wellbeing. With such clear evidence about why engagement matters — for individuals, for organisations and for UK plc - there is a huge opportunity to be tapped."

In an open letter to The Times MacLeod and Clarke reveal the research that shows the negative impact of a lack of employee engagement.

"Employee engagement is good for individuals, good for business and good for UK growth," the letter said. "The evidence is compelling. Only a third of people are fully engaged at work, the remainder not reaching their full potential. Research also suggests that £26bn in added GDP could be realised from this wasted opportunity."

The letter was signed by leading figures such as Sir Win Bischoff, Chairman, Lloyds Banking Group, Peter Cheese, CEO, CIPD, Brendan Barber, General Secretary, TUC and Sir Eric Peacock, Entrepreneur, SME Sector.
