British engineering firm Rolls Royce has announced a £3.2 billion contract that will ease some of the mounting pressure on the firm.
The engine manufacturer recently announced that 2,600 jobs would be going following four profit warnings in the space of two years. The new deal, with Delta Air Lines, will see the firm deliver engines for fifty aircraft.
"We are proud to be selected to power Delta's new generation of aircraft and look forward to deepening our relationship with a long-standing and valued customer," said John Rishton, Rolls Royce chief executive.
"It is further evidence of the success of the Trent XWB in the market and represents a powerful vote of confidence in our newly-launched Trent 7000."
However, despite the announcement the firm have ruled out growth altogether this year due to the impact of Government defence spending cuts.
