Premier League football clubs are likely to set a record for the amount spent on summer transfers, according to figures from Deloitte.

Ahead of today's 'Deadline Day', Deloitte said Premier League clubs had already spent £790 million on transfers so far this summer, £45m short of the current record of £835m which was set last year.

Last year, Deloitte said £80m was spent on 'Deadline Day', and with a number of deals expected to go through before today's 6pm deadline, a new transfer record seems likely.

"Last year we saw £85m of spending on deadline day and with further business expected over the coming hours, it looks set to be another record summer of spending for the Premier League," said Alex Thorpe, from Deloitte's Sports Business Group.
