The UK construction sector rebounded in March, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Output grew 1.6% compared with last year, and 3.9% with the previous month.
The ONS said growth was slow towards the end of 2014, and had remained sluggish at the start of 2015. Growth was just 1.1% in the first quarter, compared with Q4 in 2014.
There was particularly good news for the private housing industry. House building was up 2.3% in March, the ONS said, after five consecutive months of decline.
Yesterday (Thursday), the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) said a lack of sellers was pushing up house prices, further emphasising the lack of new houses being built.
