Companies House has lost a £8.8m negligence case at the High Court after a spelling mistake ended with a Cardiff businessman's company going into administration.

The UK's registrar of companies recorded Taylor and Sons' as being wound up, but it was in fact another company, Taylor & Son Ltd that was being wound up.

Justice Edis found that Companies House owes a direct duty of care to input the correct information on the registrar and that the company went into administration as a direct result of this wrongdoing.
