Chinese hackers have been blamed for the theft of data from 35 million accounts on a social networking site in South Korea.

Both sites that came under attack, Cyworld website, as well as the Nate web portal, are run by SK Telecom.

The attacks come on the back of a wave of attacks targeting South Korea's government and financial firms, and are believed to have stolen phone numbers, email addresses and encrypted information.

Details of the breach were revealed by the Korean Communications Commission earlier today, with the commission claiming they had traced the attacks back to an IP address based in China.
