Shares in China rose to a seven-year high on on Friday as the Shanghai Composite hit 5,000 points first the first time since 2008.
The index was up 1.26% to 5,010.89 at mid-afternoon trading.
It comes after shares in China dropped as much as 5% during a volatile day of trading.
Elsewhere, Japan's Nikkei 225 was down slightly at 20,460.90 on Thursday.
