Offering bribes to help secure export contracts is widespread, Transparency International have found, with China and Russia named as countries most likely to offer a bribe.
Transparency International’s research, for the first time, examined the growing prevalence of business-to-business bribery. Its findings suggest that corruption is becoming more of a problem not just for democracy and for the public sector, but for businesses themselves in the private sector.
“With the entry into force of the Bribery Act we would have expected to see the UK higher up in the rankings. UK companies need to make sure they have a rigorous zero tolerance approach towards bribery. At the same time, the UK Government needs to level the playing field for honest UK businesses by working actively through the G20.” said Chandrashekhar Krishnan, Executive Director of Transparency International UK.
