Image: BBCThe government's budget statement could be delayed after Sajid Javid resigned as chancellor, a minister has said.
Transport secretary Grant Shapps told the BBC's Andrew Marr programme that the date of the budget would be set by Mr Javid's replacement, Rishi Sunak.
Mr Javid quit as chancellor last week during Boris Johnson's cabinet reshuffle after the prime minister requested that he sacks his team of aides.
Mr Shapps told the BBC: "The guy [Sunak]'s only been in place for a few days, let's give him a few days to decide on the date."
Mr Javid had been due to deliver a budget statement in November, but it was cancelled due to the election. Having scheduled it for March, he described the policies on offer as an "infrastructure revolution".
Further delays in the budget statement could prevent the Office for Budget Responsibility, which assesses the government's performance on managing the country's finances, from fulfilling its legal requirement to publish two financial forecasts per financial year.
