UK Trade & Investment held two seminars for businesses interested in bidding for contracts related to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brazil.
The consecutive hosting of these games represents a very significant business opportunity for British companies with £45 billion of contracts available.
British businesses have an impressive track record of delivering large scale sporting projects. Many London 2012 Games facilities have, for example, been delivered early. As such it is extremely well placed to win profitable contracts.
Commenting on the business opportunities Lord Green, Minister for Trade and Investment, said:
“The hosting of the next FIFA World Cup as well as the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games means that British businesses have a unique opportunity to bid for the £45 billion of contracts that are available.
“British businesses have proved time and time again that they are amongst the best in the world, and there is no reason why their bids should not succeed. UK Trade & Investment can provide them with all the support that they need.”
Talking about the opportunities for British business in Brazil, Will Durden from Steer Davies Gleave, who is now working on eight of the stadia projects for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, said:
“When we began our journey towards winning work in Brazil for the 2014 World Cup and 20216 Olympics the assistance and support provided by UKTI staff, in the UK and Brazil, was invaluable in helping us understand the market we were in and in reaching the right people.”
