The parent company of British Airways has reported a surge in profits for 2015, thanks in part to cheaper fuel prices.

IAG, which also owns Irish Aer Lingus, and Spanish airlines Iberia and Vueling, posted a pre-tax profit of €1.8 billion (£1.4bn). During 2015, fuel prices were down 6.3% and would've fallen as much as 17%, had the US dollar not grown so much.

IAG said 2015 had "undoubtedly been a good year", but said currency and fuel market movements created challenges.

Following the acquisition of Aer Lingus last year, the group said it expects to see similar growth in profits in 2016, forecasting profits to double at €3.2bn.
