A recent survey has found that earning £50,000 a year could make you one of the happiest people in the UK. Workers who are paid £50,000 a year were some of the happiest in the £10,000 to £70,000 wage bracket, with one in five saying they had never been so happy in their entire lives. The findings came as part of a survey by lovemoney.com, a money management website.

Despite these findings, those who earn over £70,000 admit they felt less happy than those who earnt £20,000 less. 72% of respondents said that they believed having more money would make them happier, and 40% of those earning £20,000 or less said that they had never felt truly happy.

Money was also a source of unhappiness, with 37% saying that they felt discontent when looking at their bank balance. Many said that having time to relax, and a better social life, would make them more fulfilled.

Ed Bowsher, head of consumer finance at lovemoney.com, said: 'With a salary of £50,000 you've got the combination of perhaps a personality where you're more easily content with your lot but also at a salary which is very much above the national average'.
