The Italian Prime Minister has won a vote of confidence today by the narrow margin of 3 votes in the Lower House of Parliament.
Berlusconi is half way through what has been a tense third term for Italy’s second longest serving premier.
The entrepreneur; Italy’s third richest man, with a net worth of $9bn, has suffered in popularity recently, with numerous sexual controversies and Italy’s worsening debt marring his term.
The vote of confidence today saw him win by the narrow margin of 314 votes for, and 311 against; in what Pier Luigi Bersani, head of the opposition Democratic Party, has described as a ‘Pyrrhic victory’.
Riot police clashed with demonstrators in Rome demanding he step down from the role of Prime Minister.
