For the first time this year the global GREEN AWARDS 2010 are opening one of their categories to a public vote. The Best Green Use of Mobile Apps and Technologies Category will be open to vote online through a dedicated website and mobile site from 5.00pm Friday 22nd October 2010 until 5pm Tuesday 26th October 2010.

Mobile phones and mobile phone apps & technologies have become fully integrated within our daily lives and in many ways the mobile device has become a virtual extension of our genetic makeup. Mobile apps constitute a very strong communications tool when it comes to generating awareness in society. They accompany us from the moment we wake up until we go to sleep. They form part of our everyday lives. They help us shop, do business, get around places, read books, learn languages, etc.

“Green” apps have also been on the rise, offering general sustainability tips through games to store and product directories; all of them with the final goal of making a difference.

This year the GREEN AWARDS have opened a new category: Best Green Use of Mobile Apps and Technology. The aim is to put forward the best examples of “green” mobile apps and technologies and finally to promote their use.

Also for the first time, the GREEN AWARDS would like to invite the public to vote for their favourite mobile app and create the shortlist for the Best Green Use of Mobile Apps and Technology category. The process is simple: voters will need to provide their e-mail address and click the “vote” button.
