Barchester Healthcare Ltd is a UK-wide care provider supporting more than 10,000 people at more than 200 locations.
Barchester Healthcare was founded in 1993 by entrepreneur and current CEO, Mike Parsons (Barchester Healthcare). The organisation has adapted and grown from one that focused on nursing care for older people to one that has developed expertise in other care areas.
Services include dementia care, assisted living and supported living. The company also provides support for younger people with physical disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, acquired brain injury and neurological disability across a care pathway.
Barchester has created Memory Lane Communities around the UK. These communities are dedicated person-centred dementia care facilities.
Since 1996, Barchester has grown from 12 to over 200 care homes through over 40 acquisitions and new build developments. In October 2004, Barchester Healthcare acquired Westminster Health Care for £525 million, creating the fourth biggest independent healthcare provider in the UK.
Employing more than 14,000 staff, Barchester Healthcare is the only care provider listed in the Sunday Times Top 25 Big Companies To Work For 2010. This is an award voted for by staff. Barchester was placed on the same list in 2006 and 2009.
