Changes to Britain's biggest traveller loyalty scheme will mean Airmile members will no longer be able to claim free flights.
The changes, due to come into effect this Autumn, will mean the scheme's members will now have to pay taxes, fees and charges on their flights. This means a standard 'free' air miles flight to New York would end up costing in the region of £360.
In further changes to the scheme, which will become known as Avios, members will need to amass in the region of an extra 20% more points in order to redeem accumulated air miles.
Those redeeming miles for European flights will only pay a maximum of £27 in taxes, however those going further afield will be hit with much higher taxes and fees.
The new scheme comes as Iberia and British Airways merged, and will offer more flexibility in using Airmiles under the new system.
