With Wales and England playing their Euros openers on Saturday, the two matches between them could attract up to £50m worth of turnover across the betting industry.

“These are two of the biggest betting events of the entire tournament. They are the matches that people have really been looking forward to and we are expecting a mad rush,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

England kick off their Euro campaign against Russia on Saturday and it is predicted that up to £35m could be wagered across the betting industry on that game alone.

“Come the final whistle, we estimate that around £7m will have been wagered on the England game with the Three Lions probably accounting for around 80-85% of that,” said Joe.

William Hill are expecting the tournament to attract upwards of £500m industrywide turnover.

England are ODDS ON at 10/11 to defeat Russia in their tournament opener with a defeat 19/5 and a draw 11/5. England have attracted the biggest wager of the tournament so far - £50k at 9/1 – a bet that will return £500,000 should England win the tournament.

“The odds suggest that England will get off to a winning start and at 8/1 they are one of the favourites to win the tournament.”

Wales are 15/8 to beat Slovakia – the same price as they are to lose the game.

William Hill odds:

15/8 Wales; 15/8 Slovakia; 9/5 draw

10/11 England; 19/5 Russia; 11/5 draw

England and Wales to both win: 9/2
