108% GROWTH BETWEEN 2019 AND 2021
Origins
Founder and CEO Nick Proctor joined the ‘fast-track’ scheme at RBS after graduating from university. During his time at RBS, he would regularly interact with businesses being overcharged and underserved by their energy consultants and believed that they and the energy sector deserved better. In the first three years, it was tough. He made more money tennis coaching and working for Tetley as a ranger. Learning how to build a proposition, running the finances, building supplier relationships, and getting people to believe in his vision was difficult, especially as he started out completely on his own.
Success Factor
True to its values and mission, Amber became a certified B Corporation, meeting the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability, to balance profit and purpose. It is always looking at ways in which it can support businesses to meet their energy objectives and have created many innovations throughout its journey that have supported its growth plans. Amber also prioritises people, whether it is clients, employees, or suppliers.
The Future
Over the next five years, there will be investment into the digitising of Amber in order scale more and for the customer experience to be wholly joined up, there needs to a greater focus on improving its infrastructure, architecture, and CX. By 2027, there will need to be a focus on making sure the customer journey takes them to Net Zero. A lot of investment will be going on joining the dots and testing the pieces of the jigsaw Amber has built with lots of growth, consolidating of ideas, and transforming of operations. Amber is likely to have an employee base of over 250 by 2027 but with an increased diversity in income and more coming from the Net Zero consulting space.
