Loneliness affects millions of people across the UK, and is one of the driving factors of poor mental health - which has grown significantly since the pandemic.


The pandemic saw an increased number of people isolated from their peers, forced to stay away from family and friends, and lacking the social aspects they once had. Though the world is getting back to normal and people are encouraged to return to their old ways - it is far easier said than done, as many are still struggling with the effects this loneliness has had on their health. 

This Mental Health Awareness Week we aim to raise awareness around the topic of loneliness, and how it can affect our mental health. We encourage you to explore the experience of loneliness, its effect on our mental health and how we can all play a part in reducing loneliness in our communities.

That is why we have chosen it as our theme for Mental Health Awareness Week 2022.  Our connection to other people and our community is fundamental to protecting our mental health so we much find better ways of tackling the epidemic of loneliness. We can all play a part in this. The week is also an invaluable opportunity for people to talk about all aspects of mental health, with a focus on providing help and advice.”
