A government minister has called for health and safety training to be incorporated into business management courses. The health and safety minister, Lord McKenzie, said UK business owners and managers needed a wider knowledge of the area in order to make better decisions, according to a report by Norwich Union Risk Services."We are trying to get it into their degrees or continuing professional development. We need to make sure health and safety is integrated as part of mainstream management training," he commented.Lord McKenzie made the comments at a recent Institution of Safety and Health Conference in Telford. The minister added that British business needed to realise that raising health and safety standards was not about "over the top risk assessments or mountains of paperwork".From next month businesses can be charged with corporate manslaughter if found guilty of serious health and safety failures.
