Hitachi switches off TV production in Japan

Electronics giants Hitachi are to cease producing televisions, as of the end of September 2012.

The Japanese firm have confirmed that they will end production in Japan, having already outsourced overseas TV manufacturing to foreign firms two years ago.

However, the Wooo television brand will continue, given that the product is made by outside contractors.

Japanese TV manufacturers have been hit by increased price competition, and by a strong yen hitting export sales.
