As well as having IT security systems in place, making sure customers' privacy is respected is another key facet of small business IT.That is the opinion of the Open Rights Group (Org), a non-governmental department charged with raising awareness of data protection issues. The organisation's comments follow controversy surrounding the use of the Phorm internet tracking service by a number of businesses.Phorm was recently claimed by the Foundation for Information Policy Research to be illegal.Becky Hogge, executive director at Org, believes that the reaction to use of such software shows how aware consumers are of their privacy rights when online - a factor that should be taken into account in any small business IT policy. She added that it is now up to respectable companies as well as the government to respond to people's concerns.
