Yorkshire-based electronics retailer, Maplin, has been sold in a deal worth £85 million.

Private equity firm Rutland Partners has bought the company, which is the UK’s largest specialist consumer electronics retailer.

Maplin was bought by Montagu in 2004 for £224m. It is thought the electronics retailer was put up for sale in 2011, with Montagu wanting £500m for it. The £85m paid by Rutland Partners is a small fraction of the 2011 asking price and the figure Montagu paid ten years ago.
