Newspapers, books and stationery retailer WH Smith have reported that same-store sales have slipped 5% on the previous year.
However, the high street chain are confident that its profit will still be in line with expectations, as its strategy of improving profit margins and cutting costs, rather than pushing sales, was working.
With other 1,000 shops in the UK, on the high street and at transport hubs, sales for the final quarter were, in the eyes of chief executive Kate Swann, resilient.
