Despite a degree of economic slowdown one area of the economy is thriving despite many cutting back on their spending, gambling.
This is highlighted by the fact that bookmakers Ladbrokes have announced that they will open sixty more shops, following a light increase in annual operating profits.
According to the bookmakers, gaming machines proved particularly popular, with almost £10.5 billion being spent in them, up 14% on last year.
The UK's second-biggest betting chain. described over-the-counter betting as "resilient" after taking in £2.5 billion.
