Dominique Strauss Kahn has been sent to New York’s notorious Rikers Island prison. He has been denied bail for charges including the attempted rape of a hotel chamber maid during a private visit to New York. Kahn denies the allegations.
European finance ministers yesterday decided on a bail out plan for Portugal, despite their visit being ‘overshadewed’ by the events surrounding the former IMF chief’s arrest.
Focus in Europe shifted from Portugal to Greece as the bail out offered is widely believed to be insufficient. The Eurozone finance ministers also agreed a further package for Ireland.
The scale and interconnected nature of Europe’s debt crisis has prompted talks that cash packages for insolvent countries will be insufficient, renewing a lack of truct in the Euro.
