Homer Simpson is many things; overweight, lazy, immature, stupid, hilarious. The list goes on. But one thing you might not expect him to be is the ideal symbol of the American middles class economy.

Since it first aired in 1989, The Simpsons has shown Homer in a number of different jobs, not just his regular stint as the nuclear power plant's safety inspector. In fact, over the near-30 years of the show, Homer has held nearly 200 jobs. Some lower class, some middle class and some upper class. But he's never progressed.

The folks over at Vox put together this amazing video highlighting how Homer is an almost perfect symbol of the American middle class economy, except for perhaps the bizarre job roles.
